I have a 180 Auto, on my stop/start commute i average about 26-27 MPG, however on a steady 70mph long journey, it averages at about 33-34 mpg. You get many more Smiles per Gallon though

My 75 auto does around 25/27 on the daily runs I do (12 miles in the am, same again pm), driving it 'normally'. I've seen it drop to 20/22 on the odd days when I've booted it a bit. And on an mainly motorway run down to Hendon and back recently, I saw 39, which was nice.
Oh, all verified with brim/brim technology! Pete

thanks guys for replies up to now, this is just an idea for now,i only do about 3,000mls a year in my diesel at an average of 40mpg,so was trying to work out the difference between the two, road tax on mine is £180 and on the v6 £280,my insurance for the diesel is £180 what would it be roughly on the v6.

I'm 55 (quite young really....), full NCB, and its around £180 from memory, after £20-odd quid cashback via the Quidco website.

The MPG depends on the sort of driving you are doing. We had a 75 2.5 auto and agree with all that down the motorway journeys we could get it in true mid 30s BUT around town (Outer London stop start driving, 5 mile journeys) then 20 MPG seemed good.
If you are getting 40 out of a diesel then 25 mpg from a petrol would be a good if slightly pessimistic estimate. For 3,000 your petrol costs would be around £700 compared to £470 for a diesel. £230 pa seems a small price to banishing the noise and pollution of using the devil's fuel!

Just buy it,the extra cost is far outweighed by the feeling of smug superiority you get when driving it,also its like having a work of art on your drive.......just reread this and i must get out more..

Over the past few months I've been getting around 20mpg on my 2.5 though that's mainly driving around town. That works out at approximately 30 pence per mile using Shell Nitro or whatever it's called. A cheaper fuel would cost less but get fewer mpg so work out probably about the same cost per mile.
Then there's road tax as above. Plus insurance. Plus service and MOT - cost me £110 for the lot this year. Then there are things that go wrong and need fixing - total over the past 12 months £0. Don't forget the cost of Simon's Bulgarian walnut trim. Then there's the cost of a handwash every so often - say £5 every couple of weeks. Or a hand polish. £20 every fortnight say. Finally the cost of saving up for a new cambelt - £500 once every five years. Enjoy - it may be more affordable than you think. |
