sticky brake lights

Following the excellent how to change a brake switch by RoverDan I decided to swap my brake switch for a new one as I have an MOT due...

He is absolutely right in describing a pig of a job.
Much swearing and pleading to a higher power have brought me to a point where i have a functioning brake light at the first turn of the key only- turning to the second click or starting the car causes the brake lights to light up and remain so regardless of where the pedal is.

Any advice would be welcome, having spent two and a half hours on it I really am stumped as to what may be the problem or what to try next... Thanks in advance.

Check fuse 13, if its blown the brake lights stay on.

Think I deleted my reply Trikey.

Thanks for the suggestion, checked fuse 13 (10A) and its ok.
Working tomorrow so won't be able to try anything til early evening when hopefully will be able to try any other ideas out and maybe see things differently.

Update

Continuity tested all fuses in passenger fuse compartment and all are fine. Disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and problem still there after reconnecting. Have checked all exterior and interior lights and all working as should, instrument display working ok too.
Could the switch be faulty? As said previously it does function correctly when the key is turned to the first click. Does anyone know of a way to check the wiring to the switch?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Searched through the forum yesterday regarding a problem I'm having and have thanked the OP in the thread (not sure how to post up a link to it here) for posting up the conclusion of his problem.

Same problem here and same cause, pulling the ABS fuse (32) fixes the sticky brake light... Now to see about getting the ABS fixed.

Easy to forget what a fantastic resource the forum is, we really are very fortunate to have it and the members we do.

Turns out it wasn't the ABS unit, LSM, ANY wiring problem or my cack-handedness

Switch from Rimmer Bros fitted at suggestion of Forum member chgperformance and all good.
Part number KXB000022A

Will be making sure the seller of the Lemark ( LBLS113 ) switch removes the Rover 75 / MG ZT compatability tag.
