Routine replacement of coolant hoses.
Would it be prudent to routinely replace the full set of coolant hoses now these cars have reached a certain age?
My car has a low mileage and is not in daily use, never the less the rubber hoses are 16 years old and one of them splitting/leaking when on a journey would cause untold grief and possible large expense. Or are they good for a while longer? |

I've replaced the ones which connect into the block as deteriorated and started weeping slightly but I don't see the need to replace a hose which looks ok. I doubt that a modern hose will suddenly burst if it looks sound.

The prices at Rimmers' are incredible https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001584 My own are sound , but certainly feeling "soft" . Having just come back from a 250 mile trip to Dorset in the worst motorway journey for traffic I can ever remember , bumper to bumper crawling traffic for 8 hours , I would hate to have one give up the ghost and have to try and get my car to a far-distant "refuge" point ! Also , a nice set of copperleaf red silicone hoses would look good at show time

That is my concern too. I believe Lovel recommends a set of Chinese hoses.Hopefully he will comment. |

A year or two ago there were off the shelf sets of silicone hoses available for the 1.8T on eBay.There was a choice of three colours, not seen the listing for a good while now though.
