Default Wheel sizes

Hi All

I want to get a cheap, cosmetically scruffy but safe to use alloy (or steel) wheel to replace the spacesaver on the 75 Tourer CDTi Connie and have a wanted ad on the forum. I've had two punctures in the last year, the last was on a not far from new tyre and was irreparable. I want to go the old route of putting on a spare, continuing the journey and getting fixed while still able to use the car.

BUT do I really need to get an exact match (16" seven spoke alloy)?

Would any Rover / MG 16" wheel provide an adequate match for the others?

On a related note, I would like to go a similar route with the ZT-T Tourer CDTi but need to check what the wheels are as it's in the workshop; they are low profile tyres.

Cheers

I would say you do not need an exact match when it comes to seven spoke alloy but your insurance may have a clause about different wheels.

low profile tyre on one side and normal tyre on the other may be a no no, hopefully someone will add to this.

A 16 inch union would be fine as a spare

Yes , according to my MOT man wheel sizes on the same axle have to be a match ie dia / width , also tyre profile , and tyre speed ratings have to be as per manufacturer's spec . Cosmetic patterns are not an issue .

Obviously that does not apply to space saver spare wheels.

From what I understand, if you put a car in for test with a spacesaver fitted it will fail

Thanks to all.

So, for the Rover 75 CDTi Connie Tourer, any 16" MGR rim which can take tyres to match the others will work. It's a bewildering field despite having looked on tyre manufacturers websites.

I think the ZT-T CDTi Tourer is on 18" wheels.

Just to round this off, I should be picking up a spare wheel, same size etc as the 18" 11 spoke alloys but different in appearance, on Wednesday coming.

I'll put on the cheapest tyre that matches speed, size etc ratings. It currently has Goodyears.

Got to be better than a spacesaver.
