Insurance
Is there a preferred insurer for our cars?
I was shocked whilst shopping around that Footman James "does not insure Rover 75's"!!!!! |

Peter James (the original 'James' in FJ) added my 2003 75 to my classics policy along with the Singer, Sunbeam and Datsun but won't add my 2006 ZT (picking it up on Saturday) due to it's age.
I found a normal policy with Performance Direct for a reasonable £216 with no NCB but as it's a normal policy I will earn NCB on it so the price should fall. |

Best just to go on Confused.com or similar and see what cover you get offered at what price. But for every car I've ever got quotes on, at the end of the quote list is something like "16 insurers declined to offer cover". If an insurer has a coincidental run of claims on a certain type of car or driver you get a "Computer says no". situation. Three vicars have their cars stolen in a week and they won't insure vicars for the next year or so.
I'm insured with a broker called Cornmarket in Belfast, can't remember who the underwriter is and I pay about £180 fully comp for an 05-reg 2.0 CDTi but I think they specialise in insuring HGV drivers (of which I am one) in their private cars and might charge more for other occupations. |

I’m with Lancaster only because finding insurance for the V8 ZTT 400 is a bit hit and miss. I have the multi car policy.

Thanks very much everyone, yes, I have been round almost all the companies you mention. I am with Lancaster at the moment but not too happy there but their renewal quote is competitive!! Adrian Flux looks slightly best.......

I'm with Admiral on their multi policy (2 cars and the home B&C) for my 55 plate diesel ZT. Think it comes in around £220 for fully comp with protected NCB with 7k miles pa. More than happy with that. When I was also running the 10 plate 1.8 diesel Mondeo, that alone was £400 and with a full NCB.
Follow Martin Lewis' advice - shop around. Use Confused & Go Compare then also look at those that don't use comparison sites - Aviva, Direct Line (I wouldn't, they quoted me £5,000 once to insure my 216GTi). Also see what Defaqto rating they have for things like cover, customer service, payout etc.

I am with Adrian Flux - and i have a 200 bhp remap on my 1.8t - they were just better value than Admiral .
