kv6 mileage

Well thought my days with Rover 75s were over but an member of the local Rover club over here informed me of another older member who s interested in selling a mint 2.5 kv6 2001 75 Connie in Dover white, the one colour i never had.
Evidently has just had new belts, water pump and a heap of new stuff done.
Only issue is its done 240,000 km.
Ive owned a few kv6 75s but not had one with the mileage.
My question is how long will a kv6 2.5 engine go for if serviced regularly ?

difficult to put a millage on this .depending on service history, and type of driving i suppose. if she is sounding quiet and not burning oil , then there is good reason to believe that she is good for quite a few miles yet ... i have often wondered about the autobox standing up to moon miles , but the usual high milers are manual gearbox , and of course diesel. you dont see many users with very high miles on the kv6 , but maybe there is a post on here asking the same question. a thing to remember as well is that at very high miles every part on the car will have had high usage , not just the engine and gearbox. you are at least in a good position knowledge wise and able to do your own services and jobs. if you really fancy the car then go for it, and make a little noise for a better discount due to the high milage . your call. ...

Looking at it, 240,000km works out at about 150,000 miles i think ?
I wonder how many 150,000 mile kv6 cars are out there.?

I've heard about several kv6 2.5 still in good condition which have exceeded 300,000 km (around 190,000 miles) here in France.
Provided it is well cared for and regularly serviced there's no problem at all.
Mine is a 193,000 km autobox, drives a treat & in brilliant condition and I hope I'll die before her!

No reason why the KV6 engine can't do far more than 150k - over here though most of the owners can't afford the fuel bill.

If i buy it,it wont be a daily driver as ive got a jeep grand cherokee which is a great drive, but i have a spare garage and thinking more of a weekend driver so shouldnt rack up to many kilometres.

A very long time ago a good friend and petrolhead "explained" to a car & bike mad teenager (guess who

) that the only way to get high mileages on something was on Motorways & major roads. Cruising, dude on decent(ish) tarmac

There was more wear on the "one careful lady owner" car that went a couple of miles to the shops and back once a week all around town with stop/start traffic and never getting properly warm.

Oh, and in general, bigger engines are less stressed than smaller ones 'cus they work less for similar effect.

I have no personal experience of stellar mileage 2.5's but provided it's had regular oil changes and been obviously looked after I don't see what would make it implode the minute you buy it.

If you already have a Jeep and are handy with the spanners why not take a chance? All these cars are getting old now and will require repairs - my main concerns are subframes and sills as I'm not a proficient welder (yet!). I saw a beautiful 75 the other day on eBay seemed to go for a song at £700 but needed both sills and a wheel arch repairing so stick another £1000 on top for that ...

On a separate note I was going to offer you some parts I've had in my garage since I sold my Cherokee a few years back - an oil pan seal I had to buy from the US and a couple of other bits but then noticed you're in Oz! Mine was the classic XJ 4.0 on LPG - I loved that car!

Except when a KV6 is fuelled up with E85 which in France is 63 pence a litre at the moment (highly detaxed), or £2.86 a gallon.

I know here a handfull of 75 which are fuelled up with E85 including mine (since nearly 5 years).
BTW E85 is produced in France thanks to beetroot and agricultural waste (just mixed with 15 to 25% petrol) and its exhaust emissions are far cleaner.

To make it shorter: better, cleaner & cheaper than diesel by a long chalk.
A very good alternative to electric which isn't that green...

Only downside: a 20/25% overconsumption but given the kind price it costs me half the eye-watering money I might spend on petrol equivalent.

And don't think it uses good arable soil: not at all, barely 2% of the whole and France is at the moment nearly producing twice its consumption, the rest being exported.

Over here in Oz , never seen a 75 with any rust anywhere on the body.
Have seen a couple with water leaks in the boot or rear back floor area but
still no real rust.
My Jeep is a WK2 turbo diesel, great car also.
The guy is looking for about $5k aud for the 75 Connie.
A little expensive for 240k km but ill go have a look.
Tempting as there a fine looking car, especially in Old english white.
