Default Driver side door mirror (LHD) not rotating out far enough

So far I've spend quite some time making a forgotten MG ZT roadworthy again. It had suffered vibrations through the brake pedal when braking, a broken front shock spring, broken alternator, a non-working bonnet release cable and worn front lower suspension arm boots (thanks again to MSS for helping me get a hang of them!).

Now that the car was finally ready to drive home, I started my journey by fixing the mirror and seat position, but to my suprise the driver side mirror (for me the left one) was fully extended at the point where I could still see half my car in it. Now I am able to drive it, but it makes my driver side blind spot rather large, and it just doesn't seem right.

Is this something that all ZT's have or is there some way to fold out the mirror a bit more? Couldn't find any threads on this, so I'm sorry if this has been asked (and solved) before!

Hello "N",

Have you tried flooding the mirror's hinge externally with lubricant?

A long time ago when we were looking at mirrors and repairing them i seem to remember that LHD mirrors are different from RHD mirrors as the stop is in a different place. From what you have said you may have a set of RHD mirrors fitted.

I'll try when I'm back at the car, but I think the glass is already out as much as possible (there is a pretty huge gap visible from inside of the car)!

A lot has been changed and repaired on the car already before I got it, so this could very well be the case. I'll start by trying the methods proposed by Simon and Chris, but if those don't solve it then I'll look into this! It is a good possibility I hadn't considered yet.

Yuo can pop the mirror glass out to see if it's seated on the 4 pins correctly, and possibly to move it about

Got some time with the car today, and I'm pretty sure a RHD mirror is fitted. The mirror won't budge, so the whole housing is not extending any further than it is now. Also, a trim piece missing on the bottom of the mirror suggests to me that someone has worked on it before.

Now I'm just waiting to get a cheap left mirror off of a scrap car to fit that, but knowing the problem means I know what to look for!
