It's the 2nd IAT or inlet temperature sensor fitted to the later cars. The first is in the MAF sensor
It's used to more accurately determine the density of the air post intercooler. Russ

Thanks means you have the later ECM - the MIL should also come on as a test with key to position II as well then.
The later ECM will bring the MIL on with a failed or unplugged MAF, and on automatic variants, if you get an open circuit on either the boost temperature sensor or EGR circuits. As you say could well be a problem with fuel pressures. I've seen an EGR fail when the valve fell apart, which caused the engine to struggle to idle, smoke and fail to rev up, but never heard of it happening to anyone else, and of course the fault didn't come and go. Once the valve had failed that was it. |
