Default Heater not working

Hi,

I think based on the symptoms on what I have read here on the forum that my heater transistor may need replacing. I say this as the fault has been intermittent, heater/air con will sometimes not work despite what you press on the panel control. Other times it comes to life.

So if it is the transistor on my CDTI then where do I get a new one from as I can't seem to find one

Thank you in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

Marc

Cam Anyone confirm that the problem above is indeed the transistor and where to buy one from.

Many thanks,

Marc

Hi Marc,

You’re referring to the electronic control module for the blower speed on an ATC system. Does everything else work normally on the control panel?

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the reply.
As regards the symptoms, the atc panel lights up but no air is blown out of the vents and even pressing the air-con doesn't do anything. As I've said it is intermittent, sometimes it works and other times not

OK Marc, have you tried re-seating the blower motor relay in the engine compartment fusebox? Whilst you’re there have a look at fuse link 10 (40 amps) which supplies this relay. If you decide to remove it, be sure to disconnect the battery negative terminal first as it’s constantly live.

Of course the fault might be with the blower motor itself. I remember one case of this on the forum. Unfortunately intermittent electrical faults of this nature are very difficult to pin down but you could expose the blower control module and, with the engine running, wiggle its connector to check for an intermittent poor connection.

If you’re certain of your diagnosis I suppose you have three options:
  • A brand new control module from MG Rover.
  • A second-hand unit from a scrapped car.
  • If you have electronics skills, open the module, identify and renew the faulty component.

Does any of that help?

Simon
