Default Tom Tom in France?

Off to la belle France en septembre and see that if you get caught with a device that warns you of a speed camera the fine is a trifling £1500. A soupcon. I know you can turn it off but I'm wondering if anyone has ever been caught? I also read you're supposed to have an England sticker not UK, but our number plate has the Euro emblem, so maybe we'd get a cheer?

Instead of the GB sticker you now need a sticker that displays UK instead.

And yes you can be fined for having a speed camera warning device, Although I have never heard of any one being caught and fined. But there is always a first time..

They are referring to actual safety camera detectors, installed for the specific purpose. Not the safety camera feature of a satnav.

I believe that

It also says that any at-Nav that has the facility to detect speed cameras must have that facility turned off when in France. But as I said I have not heard of any one being stopped and fined for not turning it off....I have been here over 20 years and never had a problem .

Simply turning it off is not sufficient. Your devices are not allowed to have the option at all. But here is the fun part: the law is flawed. It is only forbidden to explicitly warn for speed cameras, so in most devices and with most software, when you're in France, you'll get a warning for "dangerous zones" or something similar, indicating you're approaching a camera. No problems with that.

I have a Navman satnav, which is now 15 years old. Many years ago, I downloaded a patch from the Navman website, which disabled the speed camera function in France. I also printed off the instructions in French and English, just in case.

Last weekend, I was using the satnav on my recently installed Erisin unit and noticed it warned me about speed cameras. I don't know what it will do in France, however. It would be good to know.

Unless caught by french police you will not be prosecuted on a speed camera now as europe doesn't have access to the DVLA so it's not needed anyway. As above you now need a UK sticker not GB

You best friend on French roads not to be caught by speed cameras will be the Android App WAZE. IMHO it's far more accurate & reliable than a TomTom.
I've put it in my new Erisin Android (same with your phone) and that's it.
Besides it can show you the best way from A to B.
Test it: you'll be soon unable to drive without...

As far as I am aware radar jammers are illegal in the UK, but safety camera detectors are still legal, whereas most of the EU have made them illegal.

My point not very clearly made, is a retail satnav CANNOT detect a safety camera, the only thing they can detect are satellite signals. It only shows the locations of fixed safety cameras on a map.

No different if you had a Road Atlas showing safety camera locations, what are they going to do prosecute for having a Road Atlas.
What about seeing a road sign warning of a safety camera ahead, are they going to prosecute for looking at it.

If a driver gets caught with a speed/safety camera detector, or a device modified to actually detect safety cameras, that is up to the driver.

A driver will never be prosecuted for using a retail satnav. Safety camera feature on/off/top/middle/bottom.

The reason why they have the option to turn on/off is for display purposes only.
