Default climate control

hi all today is the first time i tried the heater, tried the air con first just hot air tried just cold air still blowing warm turn up temp gets really hot turn it down to minimum still quite warm i thought turn temp up hot air turn down cold air not the way it works in my 75 tourer cdt can anyone shed any light please all advice very much appreciated

Your air con is not working.----

The coldest air you'll get today is your local ambient temperature.---

The hot air you have is from your engine when it's running.--

No not really, it could be that the front fan is not working on the low speed, to check this press the demist button and look through the front grill is the cooling fan running continually or not.

Petrol cars need the engine running when doing the demist test, with a diesel you can just put ignition to II then press demist button, make sure all the A/C is off first then press the demist button, do the check as above.

If the fan is working then you may need to have the gas checked & renewed.

Do the test and report back to the board.

thanks arctic can i just add when driving i can hear a slight sound as if something is running dry or binding it speeds up as the car picks up speed and slows as the car slows nobody else in the car seems to hear it but i can i can detect a slight burning smell when stopped i will check the fan and let you know thanks again

The drive belt on my compressor makes a whirring noise when the air-con is switched on. Not loud but it can be heard in the car. I changed the drive belt a few years ago now because it was starting to crack on the surface.

The new belt made this whirring noise immediately from the word go and has done so ever since. Everything works OK though so maybe it's the pulleys that are noisy. --
