Wooden Steering Wheel for Diesel Auto Derivatives

As per title; in the accessories price list (AKM 743 - Dec.2001 - page 19)
Wooden steering wheels are noted as not suitable (for Diesel Autos)

Can anybody expand on this please?

I'm sure that the advice has been ignored, probably many times.

I can only think of a steering wheel anti vibration counter balance weight, which I've read about, and recall that it was for diesels.
Maybe this can't be fitted to a wood rim wheel.

The damper fitted to walnut wheels for diesels is only secured by 3 torx screws. Mine actually came off a diesel. I just removed it and gave it to another owner 😎

That means the counter balance weight can be fitted to a wood rim wheel.

So back to square 1, why did MG Rover state wood rim wheels as not suitable for diesel autos?
