Plus, if you suspect any malware might be active on your pc download and run the free version of Malwarebytes - try the quick scan for starters then do a full scan if the quickie reveals nowt. The full scan can take a couple of hours or more depending on the spec of your pc .:xmas-smiley-024:

My laptop has just suffered an attack, which I have never seen before. It was quite clever, in that it almost completely disables your PC from doing anything else but run its fake virus scanner. Disabled my genuine virus scanner, stopped me running any software other than it and all it showed was the fake scanner.

I just clicked on a link to download a very convincing Flash update and that was it.....

Very easy to disable and dispose of though and here is how...

All sorted now,just did what you advised Harry,rebooted using cd & saving data to my backup file,all windows working as normal.Thank you all for the helpful advice.
