Thanks again... We shall persevere... we will fight them on the hard drives... We will fight them on the motherboards... We shall never surrender!

Assuming it were malware, have you tried booting from the install CD?

That would avoid any malware getting loaded and if it still crashes, it has to be an hardware issue.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Dude, do you have a separate graphics card in your machine and if so is it a high spec one, the problem could be that the graphics card is faulty and overheating and that's what's causing your system to shut down. A high end card will have it's own fan and will crash if the fan is faulty as it will overheat. Just a thought.

Oh I meant to say, if you want to check for Malware, download an app called Malwarebytes - its free, we use it in work to check users systems for Malware its very good and a free way of checking if you have any on your system.

I know its basic, but I had a similar problem a year back and it turned out my bios required updating, been fine ever since. Worth a shot as it won't cost nowt. I replaced memory etc before I realised. Didn't harm me just meant I could add the old ram back in.

What had happened was, there was a build up of dust inside the unit eventually leading to a sort of a flashover, so it couldn't provide enough power for it to run, so the PC just shut down or rebooted.

Got a new one & it worked super. That was 10 years ago mind!

HTH
That happened to me - quick trip to Maplins and sorted. I also open up my PC every few month and hoover it out. It doesn't take much crud to block up a heatsink. It's one of the reasons I prefer desktops over laptops at least you can do repairs and upgrades easily.
