Default Cat 5

I'm on cat 5 now.
Numbers 1-4 are buried in the garden.

Merry Xmas.

Well I thought it was funny when I read it seeing as I flood wired my bungalow with Cat5 just before Wifi became affordable!

yes indeed...

have to say though, wireless is not all its cracked up to be, my mate lives in a 200 year old cottage/farmhouse and we had to install wi-fi repeaters all over the place, (the thick walls played havoc with the signals) and we worked out that it would have been cheaper to have hard wired the place. (only his wife did not want us drilling anything)

My sister is renovating another old farmhouse, and we are going to hardwire the old part of the building, and use wireless in the new part.

Swear by CAT5 myself too, wireless just isn't an option, it's what, 2mbit/sec by the time you've secured it properly? Daft, especially with the amount of media flowing around the lan in the house between various MCE machines, wi-fi's just not up to the job.

Gigabit all the way!

Don't get me wrong, it's ideal for surfing the net via a laptop in the garden or whatever, but that's about all we use it for here and it's handy alright, just not ideal
