I'm similar, I have 2 screens at home and 2 at work, I cannot work on a single monitor setup as it really slows down the work

Possibly because of Internet Explorer?

I meant the update for IE because of the security problem they found a week ago orso. Doesn't matter if you use it, it's still on the computer and WinXP still wants to update it.

There are also a huge number of retailers / pubs / hotels and restaurants with Epos Systems running XP. The cost to business is going to be massive over the next few months. I suspect some will go to Windows 7 but many will migrate to cloud POS solutions. There are plenty out there on Android and iOS.

Microsoft really have shot themselves in the foot (again)

I use Windows 8 and it's hateful IMO.

Not sure if Microsoft considers Windows Embedded to be the same as XP. It's the same framework but with many alterations. I've been told that they will continue to support server-OS that are based on XP.
Since they already have a Windows POSready based on Win7, I hope the upgrade can be a solution.

as it is only the XP OS which will no longer update (you will still get firewall, virus, driver etc updates) I think the software resellers are just jumping on the scaremonger bandwagon.

No ones system is suddenly going to stop or be suseptable to any more attacks than they were the day before support stopped...

Not all POS uses embedded. Some systems use XP Pro. I agree 7 woukld be the sensible upgrade path; but I'm sure a lot of smaller businesses will regard it as yet another unnecessary expense and not bother, or change to a free or SAAS option on Android tablet or iPad.
