Default That`s interesting, on copyright

Some guy is in a bit of a battle with Wikimedia over the selfie a monkey took using the guys camera/phone (whichever)
Wikimedia says animals cannot own copyright and because of that they are using/spreading his photo of the monkey.
What I found interesting and correct me if I have misheard, the spokesperson for Wiki say`s for instance, if you ask a person to take your picture (we`ve all done that at sometime or other) then the person who to the picture owns the copyright to it........
Strange indeed
Ken.
The picture the monkey took though is cute

Not sure about the copyright, but in NL there is also something called 'portretright'. It means that the person in the photo actually has several rights about the usage of the photo. Without his/her approval a picture cannot be used for commercial or financial gain, unless the picture has been taken in such a way that his/her presence on the picture is of no importance and makes no effect on the possible value of the photo.

I happen to know that if the he/she on the picture is a dog, the owner of the dog gets that same right. Not sure about cats or other animals....

Here's a link to the BBC news article...

I would think that the camera's owner would own any rights to the material taken on it no matter who pressed the shutter button.

Copy rights belong to the person who took the picture as they are the photographer. Who actualy owns the camera is of no omprtance.
However I hope the monkey signed a model release form other wise it could sue if photos used without their permission
