OK, what is it you have/know that`s put you off?
I have not read too much about it but is`nt it supposed to be a great improvement on Win 8?

I am using 64 bit windows 7, it works properly, is 99% glitch free and I am a firm believer in not fixing things that are not broken.

It also replaces applications that I like and I am used to with new ones that I won't understand or like. It will certainly not support things that I have fitted to my computer, as per their specifications page. Not a fan.

Take a read here,

http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/windo...specifications

I remember my dad getting an upgraded windows disc many years ago, after installing, he could no longer use his printer, scanner or some other things. When he asked windows why, he was told that the older hardware was no longer supported by Windows and tough, buy new ones.

Image your disk(s) first before upgrading - and know how to restore them. Norton ghost (a product from Norton that works) is useful here (unless you already know how to use linux to back up complete disks).

Whatever you do, don't rely on windows 'system restore' from restore points. At the very least use the backup mechanism in windows to backup an image of all disks to external drives. You should be able to recover you system using a windows boot disk then (should you indeed need to).

Couldn't agree more with Rich.

I've worked with computers a lot in the past, set up several systems as a hobby person. And maintain all the computers in the family and from several friends. And you just can't really beat Win7.

Win8 is great if you get used to it and if you only use it to read mail and surf the net a little bit. But I found the hard way that it becomes much more unstable after a while if you use it more intensely. Win7 just outperforms it.
But both aren't perfect. Win7 still needs maintenance.

I have received the invitation on my Ultrabook.

I have reserved a copy.

Just to see what it is like.

I use my Ultrabook for when I am away from home, so have no problem restoring to factory settings if I do not like it.

Been using the pre release now for a couple of months and I have to say it's loads faster than windows 8 and is loads better than 7. I think of 8 as the equivalent to vista. It is worth a try if you don't like it roll back.

Word of caution though there is a rumor from Microsoft as I work in the field with them that this may become a subscription service soon like office 365. Without a sub you may not get updates. Like I said just a rumor.
