Default Configure netgear wireless router!

I’m trying to configure my laptop to connect wirelessly to the internet through a new netgear WGR614-6VGUKS wireless router, I’m working through a tutorial that’s online on my desktop, the laptop is connected by cable to access the net, I have typed in
http://192.168.1.1, and I get a page asking for my user name and password, I have tried all my usual ones but to no avail, even tried (admin & password).
Is it possible to remove the existing username & password and start from scratch?
Any help would be appreciated!

My wireless router asked the same from me, turned out to be my email address and email password.

I’m getting a bit confused here Tatts, is it the router password I’m looking for?
The page says ‘The Server’ Username & Password!

Is this a new Netgear Router?

If so, what model?

When you type in 192.168.1.1 what appears at the top of the pop up block?

It should say the router name.

Usually, its admin admin or admin 'blank'

but notoriousyly, Netgear stick their default usernames and passwords to the bottom of their routers. Have a look there.

The page says ‘The Server’ Username & Password!

It says:

The router username is always admin
The default password is password or (for older routers) 1234

I don't know if they are case sensitive - I also have a Netgear router too

Is it a new router? I'd be tempted to reset it & start over.

Looks like it could be a Virgin one, if it is, user name is "virgin" and I think the defualt password is password, or might be admin, but username is "virgin".

All current netgear routers use admin and password for access. Lower case will work. WGR614 certainly does.

Disconnect your cable modem from the the computer.
Connect the Netgear router.
To access the new router, type the router address into your web browser.
Enter routers user name and password as above and press return.
The basic settings option will present you with a screen where one of the options is. Does your ISP require authentication? The answer is no.
Tick the box or select the radio button that says get your IP from the server.
Apply or save changes. The router will reboot.
The radio setup.
Navigate to the wireless setup section.
Give your network an appropriate name, instead of NETGEAR.
Wireless security
Choose WPA2 for example, not WEP as it is not very secure, enter an access password, the longer the password the higher the encryption value.
Apply or save changes.

Connect your cable modem to your router, connect your router to your computer. Using the CAT5E ethernet cables supplied.

1. Power on the cable modem and wait for the lights to settle down.
2. Power on your router and again wait for the lights to settle down.
3. Power on your computer. You should now be in business.

Attempting to start the devices in any other order will result in a distinct lack of connectivity.
It is the norm to leave your cable modem and router continually powered on. If you switch them off. Switch back on in the order as above.
When you are satisfied the hard wired connection is functional. Disconnect the cable from your computer to your router and access using the wireless hardware and software on your PC

Hope this helps.

If you are unable to access the router using the given username and password it is probable that they have been changed by another user / owner if it is second hand.

Factory reset options.
On the back of the router is a small hole next to the power socket.
Insert a ballpoint pen or similar sized tool into the hole you will feel it click. That is the reset button.
With the power on. Click and hold the reset button and hold it in for a full 30 seconds, release the button and then power off and back on.
If that doesn't give you access then a full reset is required.
With the power on. Click and hold the reset button for 10 seconds, continue to hold the button in while power off for 5 seconds, power back on and continue to hold the reset button in for a further 25 seconds, release the button and then power off and back on. 40 seconds overall.

Ohhhhhhh nooooooooo they dont. Virgin supply netgear WGR614's and their default username is "virgin". the suffix on the one Lightpainter has has a "V" in it, this usually means it is a VirginMedia supplied router and has their own firmware installed.
