Petrel was the last of the whalers afloat in South Georgia, but sadly it is no longer the case and she no longer floats.

Thanks Ravinder. Knowing the high standards you set yourself, it is appreciated.

Entering the Miraflores Locks. One of the "mules" can be seen in front of the white control station.

The grey monster to the rear of the right hand side, is the Mexican Drilling Barge "Reforma". We towed it from the top of the Baja California via the Panama Canal to Houston, Texas, for dry docking.

Bull Elephant Seals are normally very tolerant of humans.

The "Beach Master" here woke from his afternoon nap as I sat down in the colony, gave me the once-over, and decided that I was no threat.

He gave me a couple of half hearted growls, just to let me know that it was his beach.

The growls must have tired him out, as he promptly fell back asleep again.

Large bulls have been known to weigh in at five to six tons, and it's best to stay upwind of them as the stench of their foetid breath can knock you over. The word halitosis takes on a completely new meaning!
