Default 1935 Rover 14

Hi.
A friend of mine asked me to come with him to look at an old Rover.

It turned out to be a 1935 P1 14. It's been off the road for 15 years. Just before the owner passed away a fully reconditioned engine was fitted, it turns on the handle and has good compression. The car is very dirty but looks pretty well sound with just small patches of surface rust, the garage it has been in is bone dry, and a new exhaust fitted 15 years ago looks as if it was fitted yesterday.

The owner's (the five sons of the late owner) don't want to pay the very high prices of professional restorers. He has asked if we both would be prepared to do some work on the car. I wouldn't mind TBH.

Is there a good forum or someone here that may be able to give us some tips before we commit?

Try the Rover Sports Register (https://www.thersr.co.uk/) loads of experience there plus free vintage workshop manuals. Think you may have to join to get into their forum but contact details are on their website

Most of those early cars can be fixed with half a dozen spanners, a screwdriver and a hammer! They are very simple and when looked after would be very reliable. Don't expect to buy off the shelf parts! The main thing that you need is elbow grease followed by patience and lots of time! Enjoy. Would love to help if you were nearer.
