I'm confused. Independent Scotland being independent of Westminster but joining the EU and having their wishes diluted by an even more remote executive? What is the substitute to fill the gap with the loss of the Barnett formula subsidy? At one point 'Scotland's Oil' would fund SNP aspirations. Now oil is a pariah and a replacement is needed but hasn't been named. Now if Scotland could begin to issue it's own currency backed by gold, that would be a way forwards for the wealth of the workers. Unfortunately no government wants that since it makes it harder for the bankers to rob the people blind by over-issuing currency, creating inflation, and then blaming it on 'greedy capitalists'. The dog and pony show goes on. Power to the rulers and poverty to the people!

Just an observation:
The Republic of Ireland has a population of around 5 million
Scotland has a population of around 5.5 million
ROI is a successful, independent Country, within the EU.
I suspect, Scotland, if it decided, could be at least match that success.

I suspect Scotland can only go for it, if the EU is backing them to re-join.

I would agree with that

I personally dont know what is driving Scottish Independence. If they wait a few years i would think a change of government might get us back trading in the single market and customs union. Could that move take the sting out of the argument?

Ultimately it's being told by a bigger 'partner' what is best for us.
The last referendum many believed that the only way to stay part of Europe was to stay in the UK. That promise was broken by the UK government.
Many of the argumemts used by the brexit folk can be copy and pasted to independence - odd but true.
I'm Scottish first and British second.a word of warning though, the more people tell us we can't do something, the more we will want to prove people wrong.

Default Doomed.

It can't work, it's a legacy that little Krankie wants on her headstone but it's doomed to fail. There's a lot that can and will go wrong if they vote out, what currency will they use? It won't be the pound and it won't be backed by the bank of England no matter what form it takes, what does it use to apply to join the EU with? The country doesn't meet the criteria to join as it is now. How will it fund the schemes that are currently funded by the money it gets from the whole of the UK taxation? Along with massive job losses and very little to trade with, it'll be a disaster for the people at the bottom of the pile as it always is. If whiskey and caramel wafers could fund everything it would be fine, investment would dry up from south of the border and, deliveries to and from Scotland will resemble the current EU farce that Ireland is suffering from. The fact that every truck or van crossing the border will have delays and reams of paperwork to endure, all in the EU dream. It would put a stop to the booze runs that are making some people a lot of money right now. It's a nationalistic fantasy that Scotland could break free and be prosperous, there's nothing to suggest it could be otherwise.

A visit to A&E in Ireland costs, so too a GPS visit I believe.

The EU seem to be pulling a few strings of a certain protocol.

And the RAF patrols their sky's when those pesky Russians decide to play silly burgers just off their coast.

The UK helped bail them out with the banking crash few years back too I think.

Just saying.

If when Scotland becomes independent, where in England will the MOD store it's weapons of mass destruction? Currently many of them are stored under the mountains near Loch Long?

Personally I think that one of the big things that will come into play is fresh water. As global warming continues, increasing population density in the Midlands and south of England, where will you get water from? We have lots and lots here. Short term maybe not a problem, but long term

As to the RAF patrolling our skys, last time I checked part of our tax goes towards funding the armed forces, the RAF is part of that.
