Just to put you in the picture. My PC is an IBM model number 9210w4D BIOS date 29/11/2005
When start button pressed and when the first sceen appears I press the Enter Key which gives me the option of F1 For set up, F12 for temporary start-up device, options here are :-

1 Diskette Drive A:
4 IDE HDD: HDS728040PLA320-(P1)
5 IDE CD: DVD Drive
6 PCI BEV: IBA GE Slot 0200 v122

And that is all I can access on start-up
I hope this sheds some light on the problem I have
Regards

If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.

I can start up my PC but it only goes as far as the wallpaper with no icons or task bar at the bottom. Hitting any keys makes no difference, it just sits there stairing at me.
The only info I can give you as to what it might be are:- 'WORM WIN 32 NETSKY' & ' TROJAN SPM/LX
I am on my laptop which is old and slow at the moment, so if there is anyone who could help I would much appreciate it

Have you got the original laptop restore disks that come with the laptop,If you have you could restore it to what it was like when it come out of the factory but i would do this has the last resort has it will wipe everything on your hard disk, and you would have to start all over again loading all your software, photos, updates, etc

You can also try Malwarebytes Anti Malware Have used it a few time and tends to remove everything even after AVG and spybot found no virus this one did

If you already have a nasty trojan then programs like spybot will be useless. Download smitfraudfix to your desktop, reboot into safe mode, run the program and follow the instructions, it will finally then do a system restore - works in most cases, I have removed loads of viruses from my own and friends PC's in this way. Link below.
