Mike

If you get stuck, if you can drop it down to me, I'm sitting around all day doing nothing, I'll run some AV stuff through it

Had this on a colleagues

This is how I fixed it

Booted up in safe mode
Ran AVG whilst in safe mode

Now it gets a bit hazy, I either rebooted and got the normal desktop and then used system restore to restore the machine to a known good date or I did it from safe mode - I think the former.

This cleared it and then allowed me to run AVG again and came up with no errors/infections

This was on an acer laptop running XP SP3

Bad Luck,
A decent AV package should have found this,
I have had this sent several times but no problems as alerted by Symantec Commercial Anti Virus Program.

When working again download Malwarebytes' Anti Malware Program.
Save to disc and boot from it, will clear most things as will a decent AV suite with Boot facility.

Sometimes the only way to fully get rid of a trojan like that (it isn't a virus BTW) is to re-format. Some of them install rootkits that make complete removal almost impossible.

buy a portable hard disk or a memory stick large enough to hold your data (no applications) and get the data off.

Then re-format and re-install windows (including all Windows Updates). Put a decent AV on, then recover your data from the hard drive/memory stick back onto your main hard drive and re-format the external disk/stick.

Scan your hard drive once more then re-install all applications.

It's a long winded process but can be quicker than trying to rid yourself of a rootkit.

I have made quite a bit of money over the last couple of weeks out of this nasty little bit of spyware ( I repair PC's as a bit of a side line). The program you need is http://filehippo.com/download_malwar..._anti_malware/ You will need to be in safe mode to load it in, then once installed run quick scan first, then follow instructions to remove threats, then reboot into normal windows and rerun the program. Then do full scan. Will get rid of PC security and the rest of it's brothers in one fell swoop.

Good news I have now managed to get my PC up and running again & hopefully rid myself of the virus.
The problem I have now is making an internet connection!
I have done all the usual stuff but it just wont connect.
My network connection page is showing I am connected but when I click on to Google or Yahoo for an internet connection I get a message :-"Internet Explorer cannot disply the web page"
Open again to the invaluable help from your good selves.

I think I have found the problem, it is the 'AVASTI free Antivirus' If I disable it all works fine. Problem now is do I uninstall it or not as this was the one that got rid of my virus!
Help accepted.
