I’ll be so pleased if the plant has a good future, whether it’s building Nissan or Renault.

They might have had a letter from Mr Barnier- maybe- but of course not, politicians and Captains of Industry don't have cosy little arrangements. Non Non. Chris.S.

The death warrant of the Washington facility was signed when the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement was officially signed on 17th July 2018, as the Washington plant was originally simply a back door into the single market, of course sweetened with taxpayer's money in the early 1980's.
Just as Honda are closing their Swindon plant as it suits the parent company, Nissan are set to do the same.........you could imagine the uproar in France if any part of Renault production was moved to the UK, as a 48% shareholder in Nissan, it won't be happening any time soon I suspect. We've had 36 years, but like most things it simply goes to show investment in alien enterprise isn't always to the benefit of the local community. Given present circumstances, no financial incentives be offered to Nissan to keep the plant open, what is being touted in the press is nothing short of blackmail, and in a shrinking global car market, we as taxpayers should not be subsidising foreign companies. Ok, so it was good news when it was announced that the Plant in Spain was to close and the Sunderland Plant seem to have a bright future. But now its Always been inevitable that the Sunderland would close when the EU signed a trade agreement with Japan? |
