Thumbs down Coolant - Copper coloured filings?

75 1.8 Turbo
During the cars latest over-temp problem, the coolant has acquired copper coloured, filing size particles! The photo shows the remains of the coolant, on top of the radiator, after being ejected from the expansion tank.
Can you tell me what it is and where does it come from?

Thanks.

Seems as if someone may have put radiator sealant in there at some stage in the cars life..

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Thanks.

Looks like K-Seal or similar product, usually used in an attempt to solve head gasket problems. Side effects can be reduced heater output plus the signs as shown in your picture, due to overdosing the cooling system with the product.

No, it's not K seal. I used that three cylinder heads gaskets ago together with a couple of flush outs, new radiator, oil pump, temperature sensor, thermostat, fans (twice), clear breather valve and 't' junction, over the last four years. I have probably forgotten other things. What is it?

you say you have changed a stat... was the old one damaged, could this be residue from that that has been eroded?

The stat was fine, bang on temp and perfect condition. I only changed it since I had a new one. Currently the stat has been missed out; since the third CHG was fitted (desperation!).
Incidentally the temp sensor and radiator were OK. Over the years the fan, the stuck breather valve, the coolant pump have cause some of the problems. In my last reply I erroneously said 'oil pump'.

you could flush that engine a dozen times mate,, and therell still be residue from the k seal in it... worked in the garage trade for over 25years and see every week the carnage that this stuff causes... "radweld " was another one..
but either way, youll never totally eradicate every little copper particle from your system unfortunately..
