Default Loose internal fitments

I imagine most people have come across the problem where the rear internal light flops out on its wires and hangs there. You try and refit it and it stays for a while and then falls out again and won't stay up there in the roof lining 'hole'. I've tried using velcro to hold it, but it didn't help. Double sided tape wasn't strong enough either. I had it happen in my Rover 75 and also just in my MG ZT as well. Also one of the chrome surrounds on the door handle on a rear door is now doing the same thing and it won't stay in its proper position. I have made the 'hole' in the roof a bit smaller by using the velcro as padding, and then wedged the light unit back - luckily it doesn't show and seems to be holding for now... But there must be a more reasonable way to do this? I imagine the plastic lugs that spring to hold it in place are weakened with time. Is there any better solution out there?
