In line Stat
Fitted an inline stat yesterday on my cdti and after solving a little seepage Temp guage rises to about 1/4 on my under 5 miles commute.Ran up to temp at lunchtime on idle with diagnostics on the dash enabled temp rose on the dash along with the temp guage until it read quarter to 9 and 80 on the dash board temp continued to rise to 88 but temp guage stayed at quarter to 9 is the temp guage knackered? is this normal? also is it normal for a little seepage around the bolts on the inline stat?

To put it bluntly the temp gauge on the 75's is poo..the needle doesn't move from 9 o'clock from 80-110c (ish) hence you get a lot of HG failures as the stadard gauge doesn't warn you until it's too late..
Normal service i'm afraid, Lots of posts about it on here..

Definitely a +1 for instant gasket / silicone sealant if needed - just make sure it's all properly dry before fitting.

Inline Stat Again
Good evening again,
Did about 50 miles mixed driving this morning with the dash display on temp.Temp did not rise above 75 degrees(in line thermostat is an 88 degree 1) so I assume the thermostat did not open (there was a drop when temp reached 72 degrees) Basically I want to know what the ****** hell is going on.I assumed that with the inline stat temp would rise to 88 degrees and then cycle climb then cycle this is def not happening with mine I have stopped seepage topped up coolant level and ran up to temp with the coolant tank lid off (to bleed it)am I missing something? regards Chas |

These are cool running engines. If you had the cabin heating on and were driving sedately then maybe you weren't producing enough heat from the engine to get above 75 degrees.
Turn the cabin heating off, drive it like you stole it and see if the temp comes up. If it does then nothing at all is going on - it's just the way these engines run. |
