Default thinking of buying a TF

My partner has liked the look of the TF for quite some time now and is thinking of possibly buying one in the next month or so. Wants to fit in more at the meets with her own MG

Thinking of going for a 135. Our biggest problem is going to be the insurance. We're both 21, and she will be running the TF as a second car only for nice days and shows, so would be very limited mileage. Can anyone recommend any insurance companies who would quote cheaply? So far shes got a £1200 quote for 2000miles.

Also, if anyone can link me to a buyers guide that would be great

Cheers,
Rick

I'm 23, I had a TF160 at 21. Insurance wasn't great, but I had 12k miles fully comp at roughly £1800. Think it was Admiral!

Adrian Flux have always been very good for me, and they quoted my partner (new driver too) well too.

These are good little books, maybe worth a try?

Can't believe the insurance quotes you're getting I know you're both young but, for 2000 mile/year, that's absolute robbery! Feel a bit sorry these days for sensible young drivers.
Just as a comparison, (which will be no use whatsoever to you and with no intention of showing off either ), we've insured the F we just bought for £138 fully comp, me and Mrs mininuts named, 2000 miles/year.
One of the benefits of getting older, I guess

Hope to see some good pics of the TF if you get one

Admiral mirrored my no claims discount on my 75 for my TF so always worth asking your current insurer if they will do this. there is lots of useful info in the TF section on .org or search for the Tbar.

I love my TF 160 and would say by the best you can afford, people get hung up on head gasket issues but personally I figure if it goes at some point you can get it done on your drive by one of the mobile specialists for under £400 why worry (mine is on 85K on the factory gasket and I drive it as it is meant to be driven, hard! (once the oil is warm of course.))

Thanks for the suggestions and the links all

We will be giving peter best a go, the car will be kept off the road out of sight. I think it was adrian flux who quoted £900 odd.

So jealous of that quote! id be happy with double that. Think about £300 at most would be reasonable for less than 2k miles a year. It would only really be used on really nice sunny days and for shows. Other than that it would be tucked away safely.

We've found one we like within the budget she wants to spend. Celestial is her favourite colour in the TF and we think we've found a good one. We only want to go for a monogram one really. A Typhoon, Poseidon or Spectre one would have been perfect but theyre generally more expensive. Theres a typhoon one for £5k at the moment!

Will keep digging away, hopefully we'll find a way around it

I know some folk get great insurance rates and others terrible, but it does come down to your credit history, driving history and insurance companies out to milk every last penny from customers.
