Just one more obstruction in the way of pedestrians, mind you if there are enough of them it could prevent "pavement" parking.

I would have thought the speed at which charging tech is moving wi-fi induction charging would be the norm in a few years time which would do away with that sort of street furniture.

Induction charging is far to inefficient for such hefty currents. Well designed induction transformers get to around 90/95% efficient - phone chargers manage around 50%, car charging much worse than even that.

VW & ORNL Laboratory are up to 98% charging efficiency. "Through this research and development partnership, they’ve already been able to increase the maximum wireless charging speed from 6.6 kW to 120 kW. Sorry, but I cannot believe that wireless charging can be more efficient than a transformer, it defy the rules of physics if it could. Don't forget, these commercial are trying to sell something, so will up their claims. The eddy current losses in the vehicle chassis alone, will be massive.
