Default The cold is sapping my enthusiasm.

Anyone else finding doing DIY in the garage is less appealing these cold days?
I've so much to do but going out into the cold for any length of time is not appealing to me.

I'll happily join your "No DIY in the cold" club.

Maybe we can blockade some road or something - only in the warm, dry weather, obviously, - to get a law made about it .

Or maybe you could have a discussion with SWMBO for me

Default Shed or garage FBH

Why not for a FBH in your garage or shed it will power up a least two small radiators or a decent medium one.

My shed is toasty warm after 20 minutes so all i do is go to the shed switch it on come back in the house a nice coffee and then go out to the shed, and work in the warm.

My grandad used to have a metal biscuit tin with holes drilled in the top and sides (for air flow) and a few tea light candles in the bottom. The lid would get quite hot and a few minutes later, the shed/garage would be toasty. (Normal health and safety rules apply - ie do not touch when hot etc!)

I love your set up but I'll need a few FBH and loads of rads.
My garage/workshop is long enough to get my car and caravan in nose to tail at about 47ft long and wide enough to have 3 sections, deep storage, caravan and car and then work workshop making it about 32ft wide. Oh and drafty enough to get a bus through the gaps but I'm slowly working on those.

Not too cold today so have been out and drilled 16 pilot holes for my new home made work bench.

What you need Ian is what's known as a Merino wool "base layer" from Cotswold Outdoor or similar. On top of that add a T-shirt, a thick sleeved shirt and old woollen jumper and trousers. A hat is essential to curb heat loss as are thick wool socks (also available from outdoor clothing shops).

You'll be so cosy in that lot that you'll positively be looking for tasks to do outside.

The key is layering and natural fibres.

What you do, is what us gardeners do with heated greenhouses during the winter. Partition and only heat the area that you need to heat.
You do not need to heat 47 foot to do your DIY
