You'd think the dirt brown colour of the water would tell people that the river is running above its normal level or are they really that clueless.

The Google maps (?) where you can see the route and drive along it has a Flood sign at the side of the road. Surely someone local keeps the signs and puts them out when needed as they do when the dips either side of the bridge in our village flood. The "young" (was going to lads but that may be considered sexist in the "Correct" age) on motor bikes all going through one way and 3 of the 4 taking the foot bridge on the way back amused me; they all went relatively slowly through the water on the 1st pass. On the web it gives the wading depth for a Discovery 4 as 700mm; havent checked it but going through 2 ft of water at speed is a bit of a risk. Also worry about the amount of water getting into the void spaces and increasing the opportunity for corrosion.

We have one locally that dips under the railway line and even when "full" of water, folks still try it!

Self damage.

Negligence is always an initial and personal factor when considering a claim. But ignoring that as a factor, as you say, they probably would call a breakdown service and claim for other damage as soon as they got home.

All policies have prominent, and some not so prominent, clauses concerning damage by the insured driver for obvious reasons. There are always clauses to cover these eventualities and in my own documents there appears the following:

‘What is not covered under section 3:
‘Any death, injury, illness, damage or loss arising from a deliberate act by you or any driver insured to drive your car...’

and

‘You, or any person in charge of your car, must protect it from damage or loss....’

There are few arguments that would get around clauses like those and others.
On the other hand... how many of us actually read our policy documents thoroughly?

It does depend on the insurance company, a customer who thought he would take a short cut across a field managed to damage the engine as a bolder pierced his sump and he carried on.

The reason for the shortcut was a traffic jam and the field had open gates both on the road he was on and a clear road at the other side of the field. You could understand it if he was in a 4X4 but he was driving a Focus ST. The insurance company paid for the recovery, a new engine and the claim the farmer put in for contamination of his field.

Willful----Meaning the driver is actively TRYING to damage his car.

No impairment.

Sorry Jon, not quite enough. That's the problem with French dictionaries!
Webster's: 'Bent on having one's own way, headstrong, self-willed, voluntary, intentional'.
A claims assessor would see that as a contravention of a policy condition given the obvious warning signs!! Lunacy is not covered.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Yes I know, but unlikely you would see it before entering the water. The road should be closed off to save motorists from themselves.
