Should I be put off by the sunroof?

Looked at an early Longbridge 2.0 v6 manual 75 (pre-project drive with real wood etc) earlier. There’re bits that’s not so good but mostly cosmetic (the panel colour variation at one of the front wings does bother me) instead of anything structural or mechanical, and none of the common issues I could think of. I absolutely love the car in terms of how it drives, rides and sound. However, the car came with a sunroof which I wasn’t aware of before viewing. As I’ve seen plenty of horrors of when one of those starts to leak (drains mostly), I would like to hear your advice as to whether I should be put off by the sunroof? I know that’s quite a cheap fix/preventative measures (I’ve read all the guides) but I won’t trust myself to do it (4 drains!), and I can’t seem to be able to find any Rover specialist very close to me (with the nearest one 50 miles away - thinking of Dreadnought) - also that the aftermath of one of those leaky episodes seems quite annoying to clean up!

The sunroof drain mod isn't that bad to do. Access to the front drains is a little fiddly. Once you've done the drains that's the problem solved permanently, and you can enjoy having the sunroof.

There's a good guide on here by artic if I remember correctly on how to do it.

Thanks for your reply! That’s good to know that they’re permanent fixes! Do you reckon the likelihood of a leaky drain is high? Asking as might not time to investigate and sort it out till at least April due to work commitments (hence preferred some qualified individuals to sort that for me)

Wide electricians tape (not duct tape) around the sunroof does the job until you're ready to fix the pipes. Well it did for me. Easy to remove and clean-off any residue - unlike duct tape.

I would imagine that the car as had a sunroof leak by now, i would be very surprised if not and most likely there is water already under the carpets, only way to find out is lift the carpet and find out.

Feel around the seat belt anchor points does it feel damp, is does not take much effort to lift the rear carpet in each foot well, and not much effort either to check the two front foot wells.

because on a hot sunny day... not that Scotland gets many of those those

it is great when out for a drive to have all the windows open and a sunroof open to let the air blast through and of course, with the stereo blasting away . No sun roof is the biggest disappointment with my saloon.

leaks or no leaks, don't let sunroof put you off.

Because it's lovely to open the sunroof on idyllic summer days to let in the fresh air and enjoy a certain closeness with nature. It's equally enjoyable on a hot night when driving home through a town or city still alive with people. I find that air conditioning can feel very claustrophobic in situations like these. Also, the glass panel lets in welcome light all the year around making the interior feel more spacious.

I agree here, it's most likely one or both of the front sunroof drains are probably leaking already by now. The rear ones don't tend to leak.

As above for why we like a sunroof

In the summer I only use the AC if it's very hot or when driving above 50mph. Rest of the time I just have the windows down and on my previous two MGRs I'd have the sunroof rolled back.

Also the sunroof comes in handy on hot summer days as you can leave it in the tilt position to help stop the interior from becoming a sauna

The two MGRs I sold had sunroofs and I really miss it, the 3 we will have don't have them sadly.
