For this type of thing, I have a mini blowtorch.
Its a Portasol 220 I think, small enough flame to heat the head of normal bolts ONLY, without damaging paint/anyhing else in the local vicinity. Works absolute wonders if you are patient and heat cycle things a few times and use penetrating fluid too. Patience is a virtue with stuck bolts, and since applying the mini blow torch, everything has been a synch so far..(touches wood) Ive seen how garages use oxy torches, the flame is too big and they end up burning everything within a 20 mile radius, not that they care. I've borrowed a long 18mm ring spanner from my friendly snap on salesman.
Now up to 1/8 of a turn after another 15 mins grunting and bleeding! I'll keep going got a head torch today. Slow going job this, we've got to catch a ferry to france on saturday night! |

Mmmm if you are only able to move it a bit and it is still just as tight then it has either picked up, or as you first thought it has cross threaded.
Hopefully once it is out you can run a tap down it and clean up the threads. Don't forget to blow out the swarf. If not then either a helicoil, or drill it out and fit a longer bolt and a nut. You can drill up from underneath, but if you helicoil it then the subframe will have to be dropped. |

Another hours back and forth with a breaker bar doing 1/6 turns and a knackered shoulder later and it's out. Coffee and clean up time now. And it's a lovely sunny day. Last edited by Andy_with_a_screwdriver; 19th October 2018 at 11:47.. |

A lot of rust in that hole judging by the state of the bolt, I’d run a tap down there before refitting.

It's not too bad, cleaned it up with a wire brush and a needle file, it's a little bit pitted in places.

Don't think I have a tap that size but I've run the bolt fully in and out 3 times and it seems pretty free now. Just about to change the bush now. |
