Default Insurance for 2nd car?

Having retired now, I’m thinking of buying a little toy, in the shape of an immaculate MG TF (all remedial work done etc etc). Trouble is, I have to insure it, and have just realised I can’t claim my 40 years’ NCD, as it can only be applied to one car apparently.

I don’t really want to fork out on a brand new policy, with no NCD. I only renewed the insurance on the Rover 6 months ago, so I’m not in a position to take out a 2-car policy or whatever they’re called (not sure how good value for money they are anyway?)

Anybody else been in this position? Suggestions welcome

Try Peter Best on a limited mileage policy...I use them for Bumble.. or go through a broker as they can find companies to mirror no claims if you need more miles.

It can work out cheaper to have a sensible mileage limit (say 10k) rather than a low one.

As above peter best on a classic policy or what I use to do was go to an insurance broker and ask them to mirror your no claims bonus onto the second car.

Thanks guys – may seem silly, but I haven't got a clue what my annual mileage would be now I’ve retired. Might well be less than 5000, but what happens if I go over?

And thanks for the other pointer – I didn’t know any companies would “mirror” NCD

You cant go over 5k with PB or they wont re insure ... mirror the no claims may be a better option if unsure of your annual mileage

LV will normally mirror NCD. They are not the cheapest but provide very good service.

As above. Try phoning around the multi-car insurances offerings like Hastings, Admiral etc.

No claims discount is a sales gimmick, that's why the 'mirroring' of NCD is offered to a customer the insurance company considers low risk I'd imagine. I got this with my project cars.

A lot of insurance companies will do this if you have a cleanish record, use a decent broker and they will sort it out for you.
