Good luck with the repairs, it is a relatively easy job and your car will be smooth again once completed

My own Tourer came from the Redruth area and I'm 99% sure it was scrapped for this exact same fault !!

guys, just an update and a quick question. someone said if i jack the car up, i wont lose any ATF, but on the guide, it says to drain the ATF and then put it back, but arent these boxes supposed to be "sealed for life"?
on another note, the part has been dispatched today, so will get it tomorrow now.

They are not sealed for life at all. I think the ATF as to be changed every 50,000 I think.

If the fluid is due to be be changed then by all means change it while doing the repair

But I'd only just changed mine when soliniod went so I drove it half way up car ramps and chocked back wheels. And when I removed the soliniod cover I didn't lose any oil

But please note when you put cover back on you will need a sealant or the proper gasket.

From memory, change oil every 60,000 miles OR 4 years, whichever first.

The automatic gearbox fluid level can only be checked when the box is at a certain temp (35'C from memory, but please check on here !) There is a detailed how to somewhere which gives the original Rover procedure for achieving an accurate level. And contrary to what some may think, temperature does make a huge difference to the volume, so it's important to do it correctly, with the correct fluid, to help ensure a decent life of the box.
