head gasket repair spanner wielders required!
Ay up. Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I need advice / recommendations. Need to do the cylinder head gasket and have tried to contact mg rover derby mobile mechanics but no reply after 3 phone calls and 2 messages. Need to get this done asap really and just do NOT trust non-rover mechanics as I want the better 7 layer gasket and I want it done right first time. Is there anyone in the Stoke / Cheshire area that anyone can recommend? I value your collective opinion on this as so far you seem to know everything about these cars, and I don't want the old "the car is scrap or a million quid to fix" nonsense most spanner men say about hgf on rovers.
Thanks in advance for just all being super awesome! |

Matthew,
I can't help you with a recommendation I'm afraid but please consider carefully the advice you've been given about choice of gasket type. Before deciding, your liner heights should be measured and the head surface checked. I am not experienced on the 1.8 engine but I'd urge you to read Beinet1's account of head gasket renewal and you might also like to contact MGJohn who knows a thing or two on this subject as well. Simon

The liners had gone on mine. Fave and Kayleigh at Derby are usually very responsive. Maybe they're on holiday.

I tried the Derby guys again and this time got through. Talked them through the symptoms and answered their questions and they said definitely, 100% head gasket. Booked them for the first available time which is 6 July coz they are on holiday till then. It's a week later than I'd have liked coz of not using the car for 2 weeks, but they seem to know what they are talking about and hopefully it is JUST the gasket at £350 and not a knackered engine. We shall see. Just have to use the blackbird till its done.

I didn't have an engine, and mine was full of k-seal, dropped liners, the works. They were very good, in fact, mine is going back in August for them to Waxoyl her.

Me either, or I'd have got it done while in. I spotted a post on their Facebook page about doing a TF and messaged Kayleigh about mine
