Saw it, ignoring it! "Experts" won't be happy until we're on nothing but protein pills.

They had the figures on the news tonight, if you eat one piece of bacon once a week 4 people in 1000 will get bowl cancer, If you eat 3 pieces of bacon every day 5 people in 1000 will get bowel cancer.

Yes there is a greater risk and if you are one of the 4 or 5 people that is horrible but there are high risks in life we do all the time and don't think twice about.

Life is to be enjoyed in my view, yes don't take crazy risks but I will still enjoy my full English when I have the opportunity.

It’s worth looking at the actual study results to see where this 18% come from.

The way the likes of the BBC report it it reads as if the population as a whole has no chance of contracting bowel cancer but eat bacon and 18% of people get cancer

But the reality is that Supposedly eating bacon/red meat increases the baseline likelihood from say, 1 in a 1000 to 1.18 in a thousand.

It is an increase certainly - but these headlines are designed to make an impact - not brief us all on the reality of the situation.

It could also be interpreted that if I eat 21 slices of bacon a week, my neighbour could contract bowel cancer lol. (Incidentally I am in a high risk group for bowel cancer due to hereditary factors, but also with other cancers as well as heart disease - no surprise really when you look at our breakfasts above )

I had a Subway breakfast this morning on my way back from Frome - very nice it was too!

But a rare treat for me - as I am one of those sad gits that actually really like porridge, muesli and yogurt.

Sad but true.

Everything in life should be enjoyed in moderation, the key words are 'enjoyed' and 'moderation', most humans don't do moderation, some even enjoy themselves, there are many factors involved including the most important one which has not been mentioned, that is all the chemicals already in the meat of animals, before it even comes to the table, these poisons, which is what they are in effect are put there by humans to prevent one disease or another, veterinary medicines and humans don't go hand in hand, and the effects on human health can't be very positive.

People in the so called developed world eat too much in any case, the major contributor to human disease is in fact the food industry, and governments need to urgently confront the industry to set new standards for sugar, salt and other poisons which awash our food.
Enjoy your food before we are all encouraged to swallow a pill, just as we will soon be driven by a battery on wheels, and don't worry too much, in a 100 years nobody will care.
Happy Easter.
