We get them over here now and again Ronnie (Along with hercs and apaches) they are a very impressive aircraft.

Seen a few at airshows Ronnie.They had a poor safety record in the early days.

Never see them up here Andy, plenty trainers, Chinooks, Typhoons etc, and one or two A400's

It was the noise caused me to look up Mick, distinctive, like a Chinook, but different if you know what I mean.

In 1956-60 I lived in Woodley (East of Reading) and about 10miles from Fairy Aviations place at White Waltham. At that time they were developing the Fairy Rotodyne which is the early development of this type of STOL aircraft. It was without doubt the noisiest aeroplane in the world! the Lockeed Constellation and Concord on take-off were "stealth" like by comparison. I think they sold the plane and development data to an American plane maker. Chris.S.

I had an Airfix model of one of those
