Nobody knows which wires I (we) need?
I've got some time tomorrow and was hoping to get it done tomorrow. But at the moment it's just sitting here, cause I don't know how to wire it up.

I can't find any information on what the ground should be, what wire is the live 12v etc.

Well, I tried some stuff, and I think I destroyed my mirror...
All I could find is that green and black are ground. All the others are +. But when I connected some of them, the screen turned black, but didn't respond to my flashlight. After a few second I got all small spots in the mirror. So, still nowhere with this.... And I think I messed up my autodim mirror....

This is what happened:
Can anybody confirm or deny that I destroyed my mirror? The black spots do dissapear, but the 'bubbles' that you can see are still visible.

@KC13661,
I found the how-to to be very incomplete and unclear about the most important part (the wiring). So after realising I ruined my mirror by trying to figure out how to wire this up, I just opened up the thing and made some pictures. Since nobody was able to comment on the wiring or give any advice I hope this will help you. Hopefully mine didn't die in vain. As far as I can tell from the switch board, the wires should be like this: RED = 12v feed BROWN = GND (ground/earth) GREY = RI (not sure, but I think it has something to do with reverse or switched live) BLACK = +0 (I think this can be ignored) WHITE = -0 (I think this can be ignored) (is also connected to GND) Small connector: GREEN = +0 (I think this can be ignored) WHITE = -0 with black stripe (I think this can be ignored) (is also connected to GND) So the way to wire this up could be: RED = 12v BROWN = Ground GREY = Switched or reverse 12v But please, don't just take my thoughts on this, ask somebody who knows for sure or wait until somebody confirms the above. As I said, I ruined mine by trying to figure this out... is going to cost me another 30 pounds.... So caution is advised. Since mine is ruined I can't test it to be sure. Mine won't go dark or lighter anymore... What will happen: When 12v goes to the red wire, and the brown is connected to a earth, the LCD plate behind the glass will get 1.46v. When a light shines on the sensor in the glass, nothing happens. When a light shines on the sensor on the back, the voltage goes down to 0.64v. When the RI (grey) is connected to 12v, the voltage will drop to 0.64v. (shining a light on a sensor won't do anything) When any other wire is connected the LCD plate will get 12v (which breaks it) So, my theory would be: When the RI (grey) gets 12v, the screen will turn light, regardless of the light that might shine on the sensor. The sensor behind the glass doesn't do anything on mine (but it might be broken!), the sensor on the back (facing the windscreen) makes the screen go dark when a light shines on it. The other wires aren't needed. RED = 12v (switched would be better I think), BROWN = ground, and GREY is optional if you want the mirror to become light when reversing.

Hi Vinnie,
Got your PM, but I am as much in the dark as you, I can only guess and my guess is the same as yours. The mirror is obviously now destroyed, the LCD has burnt out by the looks of it. I would expect it to need... A +ve, ground, reverse and one from the parking or headlights. Reverse disables the dimming. The feed from the lights enables it to dim if the lights are on, but not in reverse.

I've just checked Rave and that only shows three wires to the auto-mirror. That is obviously wrong, but that is all I could find on the subject.

I take it 'Rave' is your car?
If so, any change you could perhaps check which wires do what? i.e. which is switched, which is live, which is from reverse etc?

There are a number of different mirrors and wiring schemes.
On later Range Rover / Jaguars and BMW's the interior mirror is linked to the door mirrors and they also chromatically dip as well For this application, you only need +ve, -ve and a feed from the reversing lights to restore the visibility when reverse is selected
