You should have sat on the lap of one of the amply proportioned customers you mentioned! would you like me to find an LCOZ nurse for you?

I could fix it for you! I'm a qualified mechanic!

You have my sympathy George. I did my back a few years ago, bent over to pick something up and felt a crunch at the base of my back. Within days I had sciatica with knobs on, I'd crushed a disc which swelled up traping the nerve that runs down the right leg. Even with horse painkillers and a stick I could only manage to the kitchen to make a coffee and struggle up the stairs to get rid of it. Only relief I got was lying on my right side on the floor. That must have position the spine in such a way that it took the pressure off the nerve.

Only 31, I've had sciatica for about 13 years now. I suffer from quite bad lower back pain as it is opevery day, but every so often, the sciatica will kick in and will completely cripple me with shooting pains going down my legs and ankles. It's horrible. I'm considering going through Bupa to see if there's anything they can do. I've not made any progress through my GP.

Damage to the sciatic nerve is well nigh incurable.

As i write this it feels as if someone is trying to push a knife through my hip.
