not sure a retest would catch people filling a vapour . Even a few "good" drivers would probably fail a driving test after 10 years. may be there should be an opportunity for people to take a driving test and not risk losing their licence if they fail, I think i'd like to try . more traffic police would certainly be of help dealing with drivers not driving correctly macafee2 |

I spend more time looking at my speedo than the road now! If this idiot has his way, I think everyone should drive 10mph below the limit, and bring the country to a grinding halt. I have always felt that a good driver (of which there are too few) knows what is a safe speed under all conditions, and doesn't need signs to tell him. Deaths are mostly caused by drivers well exceeding the limit, or being careless - doubt that this suggestion would save a single life.
Furthermore, I am amazed that learner drivers are allowed 15 minor errors on test and still passed. |

Speed in itself does not kill, what kills is inattentive driving, not reading the road conditions and adjusting your driving style accordingly, and the worst thing driving along in a car loaded with safety related driver "aids" believing you are completely immune to injury.
Now I have a fair idea of what speed I'm travelling at without the need to be looking constantly at the speedo, however if you are constantly checking your speedometer due to the anxiety caused by the risk of being captured speeding, your eyes and attention are distracted from the immediate road conditions. While I don't condone excessive speed, I rather think that road policing should be carried out by actual traffic police officers, instead of the increasing reliance upon "safety cameras" which in all honesty are more about income generation than safety. After all a camera cannot detect a driver using the road in a dangerous fashion, or driving a dangerously defective vehicle, as long as they are travelling at less than the posted speed limit Roll on the increased revenue I say Brian |

It wasn't overloaded. It was fuelled correctly. Nobody counted on the metal strip falling off the Continental Airlines DC-10 onto the runway just before the Concorde took off. This strip then was flung up through the Concorde's wing piercing the fuel tank and possibly hydraulic line. The fuel ran out the holes and into the engines, caught fire, damaged engines and aircraft causing loss of thrust and stall. As with any high profile crash investigation there will be dissenters and people covering people's asses.

Don't worry, they can't afford to keep most of their speed cameras calibrated, so there's no way they can afford more precise, less challengeable equipment. Cop car came past me at about 85 on the M6 the other day - no blue lights or sirens. Glad I was only doing 75 in my 75!
