What about unsafe roads IE pot holes etc..

it was the crash that killed everyone. lack of speed as it could not climb due to being overloaded.
Too much fuel in the tanks.

there was a very interesting two part program on that Concorde, really good 2 parter

that's cos you got a faster car and they could not catch you

This Chief C*ntstable is trying to make a name for himself, I've heard on the news tonight that other chiefs have said the bloke is a clown (or words to that effect) and it's unenforceable.

What would be better is 3 yearly mandatory eye tests from the opticians, with the results sent straight to DVLA on a central computer, so no seeing = no driving and licenced revoked. Also a mandatory re sit of the driving test every time the photo card licence needs renewing (10 years). Again no pass = no driving. That would clear out some of the rubbish on our roads, like the bloke trying to refill his electric vaping thing whilst he was pulling away from the lights tonight.

I find it ironic that our vehicles, certainly those on this forum over 36 months old, are tested every year for their roadworthiness. However I passed my test at 17 and can keep on driving for another 53 years without any checks for my competency behind the wheel or knowledge of new rules etc.

It's the nuts holding the steering wheel that cause the problems, not speed or indeed velocity as my physics teacher would say, that's something else I remember from when I was 17!

not sure a retest would catch people filling a vapour . Even a few "good" drivers would probably fail a driving test after 10 years.
may be there should be an opportunity for people to take a driving test and not risk losing their licence if they fail, I think i'd like to try .

more traffic police would certainly be of help dealing with drivers not driving correctly

I spend more time looking at my speedo than the road now! If this idiot has his way, I think everyone should drive 10mph below the limit, and bring the country to a grinding halt. I have always felt that a good driver (of which there are too few) knows what is a safe speed under all conditions, and doesn't need signs to tell him. Deaths are mostly caused by drivers well exceeding the limit, or being careless - doubt that this suggestion would save a single life.

Furthermore, I am amazed that learner drivers are allowed 15 minor errors on test and still passed.

Well I was doing 125 on a motorway! The old p6 really went well for it’s time.

Speed in itself does not kill, what kills is inattentive driving, not reading the road conditions and adjusting your driving style accordingly, and the worst thing driving along in a car loaded with safety related driver "aids" believing you are completely immune to injury.

Now I have a fair idea of what speed I'm travelling at without the need to be looking constantly at the speedo, however if you are constantly checking your speedometer due to the anxiety caused by the risk of being captured speeding, your eyes and attention are distracted from the immediate road conditions.

While I don't condone excessive speed, I rather think that road policing should be carried out by actual traffic police officers, instead of the increasing reliance upon "safety cameras" which in all honesty are more about income generation than safety.

After all a camera cannot detect a driver using the road in a dangerous fashion, or driving a dangerously defective vehicle, as long as they are travelling at less than the posted speed limit

Roll on the increased revenue I say

It wasn't overloaded. It was fuelled correctly. Nobody counted on the metal strip falling off the Continental Airlines DC-10 onto the runway just before the Concorde took off. This strip then was flung up through the Concorde's wing piercing the fuel tank and possibly hydraulic line. The fuel ran out the holes and into the engines, caught fire, damaged engines and aircraft causing loss of thrust and stall. As with any high profile crash investigation there will be dissenters and people covering people's asses.

Don't worry, they can't afford to keep most of their speed cameras calibrated, so there's no way they can afford more precise, less challengeable equipment. Cop car came past me at about 85 on the M6 the other day - no blue lights or sirens. Glad I was only doing 75 in my 75!
