Do you have genuine or Thule roof bars?
This question is about Tourers with genuine or Thule roof bars.
If you have genuine or Thule roof bars fitted, could you please tell me if the instructions give and distances between the bars or from the front or back of the car for placement? I know Thule instructions give distances for the saloon but I'm getting second hand Thule "feet" for the Tourer thank you macafee2 |

Hi Ian,
By complete coincidence, I dug my old Tourer Thule bars out of the garage to carry a sizeable ladder only yesterday ! Not been used for about 15 years... I honestly can't remember the instructions ever giving a distance apart (I'm sure I would have noted it) hence I spaced them right to the end of the rails so the load is close to the roof rail mounting points. I guess with roof rails, you can move the bars to suit the load

A quick update on this Ian, I've been looking through my old files and found the Thule (as opposed to genuine Rover) fitting instructions for the footpack, which also fits other cars with similar rails.
Because the kit doesn't just fit our Tourers, the instructions only state that the minimum distance between the bars should be 700mm (it shows a generic pic) and mentions that they can be moved backward if wind noise is a problem. Hence, it appears that as long as they are fitted this distance or greater apart, you are 'within spec' Hope that helps

Thank you Soniz Zs.
The fitting kit arrived a few days ago and am pleased to say I can use my saloon bars. I have had to buy end caps for the bars to help prevent the fitting kit sliding off or injury should anyone catch a bar with their face. Not sure when I'll be using the bars but I have them if needed macafee2 |
