Default Google Wants???

...... my birth date!!! Supposedly to verify my age so that I am allowed to access content! How do I verify my age to them? By sending my credit card details or a copy of a Government issued ID! What!!! No chance! They say that my Google account will be suspended in 14 days and "No" it is not a scam. It is just a furthering of Big Brother tactics by T'internet! I have already cancelled my Facebook account due to tracking and it seems that more and more tracking is happening all the time. They can Bu**er off!Never mind computer says "No!", I say "No!"

best unplug your router, and dump the mobile. It will only get 'worse'.

A 9 year old walks into a shop and attempts to buy a porn magazine. The shop keeper obviously refuses service. 16 year old enters for the same, the shopkeeper asks for ID to confirm age, and refuses service without.

both children can easily access such material online (I used the porn example as it compares easier to on and offline), so therefore some form of identification requirement is necessary (for the UK at least).

A company I buy tobacco from, would only supply to new customers if their initial purchase was made using a credit card - I can use my debit card now. The credit card was used to confirm I was over 16.

To me such things are responsible and considerate. When it comes to Youtube or any other organisation that wishes to verify my age using a card, without my instigation of a purchase, I simply move on. An age restricted youtube video/website has no bearing on my life and as such I am happy to live without it.

Simply though, it is your choice, a bit of care (on your part) is all that is required. An alternative could be by scanning photographic id, but blocking out important info such as a passport ref. no. or a driving licence with the address and part of the number obscured. If that does not satisfy the request then make the choice.
