Santa got my wife this one for Christmas, http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Photog.../dp/032147404X
It breaks down photography into "how do I get that shot?" sections. Think I will be borrowing it regularly. |

Before starting my higher education when I was 16, I bought a book called (unsurprisingly) 'PHOTOGRAPHY' by Barbara London and John Upton, 6th edition. It had everything for beginners and more.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Photography-.../dp/0131896091 Very detailed with excellent photos to show what can be achieved with various techniques with detailed explanations. There are newer editions out now, not sure how different they are from the copy I have but I'm sure they cover more digital now. I had a bunch of other books but found this the best.

Oh yeah... another book I used back in the days was called Creative Photography by David Langford. Can't seem to find it on a simple google search.
