Default 2nd hand cameras

Hey guys

Looking at the possibility of upgrading my camera in the next few months to a Nikon D750. It's still quite pricey new, but can be had 2nd hand for a couple of hundred or so cheaper. Is it worth buying 2nd hand? I ask as it's still quite a lot of money to be paying, and just concerned if something goes wrong, I'm screwed. What do you suggest?

I've got a nice Canon 7D for sale if I could pursuade you over to the dark side

Only kidding .........Maybe take a look at buying it from a proper camera shop who will offer a warranty on your purchase, I just bought my 1D mk4 from Camera World in Chelmsford, Essex with a six months guarantee.
It might cost you a little extra over a private sale but should give you peace of mind

That looks to be a great camera Ravinder. I have never owned a Canon or Nikon but a quick Google and look at the specs tells me it is a good one.

You will need good glass to do it justice. Which is great to own except it empties your pockets a bit more.

Yes, well I am considering selling all my gear to upgrade. My friend has a D750 and it is an awesome bit of kit. And it seems easier to navigate around then my a lot older D90, which is still a very good camera, especially for newbies I think. I think I will end up buying it from a camera place or if I go to the USA this year, I could save myself some monies and buy from there.

nearly all my camera gear is second hand, ive picked up some really good deals!
as long as you get to check the gear out before you commit to buy, then you should be safe. or buy used from a shop with some kind of warranty on it if it turns out to be faulty.

I've decided to hold on to my gear for now and upgrade maybe in about a years time. Funds are pretty tight right now, plus issues with Rover!

I know you said you've put it on hold for now, but its always worth bookmarking.
I'm on my third body now, first one broke from old age (was to get me on the ladder of DSLR) second sold on, now on my current unit.

just need to get me motors all sorted so I can get a couple more lenses

I'll keep that site stored for future. I'm taking a little sabbatical from photography to try and find the motivation again. All is lost right now.

My first thought was 'WHY????' When I sold cameras, it was one of the first questions I would ask. Although I rarely saw their images, I have seen a few of yours, and again, I would ask why? Your images are spectacular. Kit envy is what I call it(and the 100+ cameras I have in my attic are testament to that! lol), and whilst there can be some reasons to upgrade your camera, at times, right now, I would try everything I could to dissuade you. Simply as there is no need. When the D90 was released it was considered the camera to have, and in fact caused a lot of people to jump over to Nikon! Today, it is still a great camera, long in the tooth, but still gives fantastic images.

At this point I would suggest people consider (especially 'newbies') upgrading or enlarging their lens collection. You have a great technique and eye, develop that further, with lenses, and then look at upgrading the camera. If I were you, I would even consider a D700/800(or even D7000) instead. But not before I considered the lenses.

Another thing I would suggest, challenge yourself. Go somewhere you know well, but take a single lens. One thing I used to do, was take my Tamron 90mm lens only out to shoot landscapes. Gives a different perspective to shooting. Even taking my 70-200mm to the same location on a different time.

I am glad you have put it on hold, because in a year the D750 will drop more than a couple of hundred. Even consider if you can wait, when a replacement for the 750 comes out, a month or two after that. (hence my suggestion of the 700/800 - that used to be a 2 grand camera)
