Well done everybody, do not delay, you have until the middle of next week before the arctic weather returns.

With an ambient of 2deg my temperatures today with the new stat fitted are not very good. On back roads my temp was between 79 and 82 dropping to 75 when stood in traffic for a couple of minutes. After getting 87 deg yesterday I am sure that at motorway speeds it will get to the correct temp. It will be interesting to see other people results but so far I think the following:
• I could fit a 92deg stat, easily done as it’s a standard size but if it’s not getting near the 88deg will this make any difference?. • The 2mm bleed hole is too big, can’t imagine going down to a 1mm hole would make that much difference? • My stat does not fully close like the one that Wuzerk received, I did take it apart and never noticed it not fully closed (but is possible), they look like cheap stats. • There is no seal between the thermostat and housing so coolant could be getting between the thermostat and housing (the seal is between the two housing parts) – unlike the meziere stat. However today on a run to Chesterfield, it just about got up to 80 odd, but on the long decent into Chesterfield with the the throttle closed all the way, the temperature dropped considerably and the gauge indicated less than 1 1/4 scale deflection. Mine has definitely improved to what it was. I think its just that these engines are so efficient they barely produce any waste heat. Its interesting if you go back to the early posts, there was a reply from BMW and they said during development it was difficult to get any cabin heat. However I hear what you say about the housing. I didn't dismantle mine. I will be disappointed if its not completely closing off the flow. |

Very true Phil, it just seems as though Wuzerk and Mintee have had better results with the other stat so I can't help thinking this one may not be as effective.
