Exclamation Another Worth Saving, Now with Photos

What price should this start at, ? 51 plate 75 cdt club Wedgewood blue 100.000 miles , 5 years of documented history, MOT August, good tyres, some scuffs and scratches on rear bumper, and the near side has been keyed front to back, apart from that the body is excellent condition ,inside appears immaculate too, real wood dash ,single din stereo . It's for sale at the garage that looks after my mother's car, on behalf of their customer.

Would a starting price of around £1200 be about reasonable? I haven't heard the car running , or actually sat inside, just looked round from outside. The garage owner was asking me for a value this morning ,as he knew I had a Rover.
If anyone wants further details, PM me and I will, pass on the contact number, car is located in Hexham Northumberland,20 miles west of Newcastle, and 40 miles east of Carlisle. Photos at bottom of page 2

Sounds like a good car. Hard to put a price on it. Depends what a buyer is willing to pay. The fact that It has sadly been keyed may put some buyers off.

If they were looking for concourse car then yes, but I'm just looking for opinions so I can then get back,to,him with a reasonable asking price.

It sounds like it's been well looked after mechanically but the keying of it down to whole side would put me off buying it at that price. I wouldn't be worried about the bumper to much as it could be repaired cheaply enough by a smart repairer or simply replaced. I think £ 800 would be the max I would pay for it. If it didn't have the keying or bumper damage I would even consider it worth more than what he's asking for it ,but cars of this age and price range really do hang on there condition and not there book price. Just my two pence worth Rich :-))

If it's manual with no clutch history, I'd put it at no more than £600. Auto, I'd give £800, but it depends how badly keyed it is.

Hi.
15 year old car with keying damage on a manual. £600 would be my thinking.

Start high and be prepared to drop would be my approach.

Keyed cars are a pain but it depends how deep the keying is. Sometimes a skilled worker with a rotary polisher can get a lot of it out and make the deeper cuts look less noticeable.

If it were mine I'd start it a £1200 and though I think 'Frazzles' suggestions are more realistic, who knows? it's worth a try.

I brought a Conn Se in Wedgwood blue bodywork brilliant 107,000 miles on a x reg, full leather and previous mots, fuel gauge not working. £220. I brought a tourer last week in good condition 234,000 miles but inside was spotless and bodywork was good £400 both run great engines are fine .So cheap cars are out there and thats what causes the market to start so low.

Ok thanks gents, bear in mind the prices you have given, are what WE as enthusiasts who know the cars would value it at, an outsider with no knowledge of the marque would possibly pay more.
I will let him know the values you have estimated and suggest an asking price of around £1000 and be prepared to drop to around £600.

I think it depends on the state of the damage to the car and if it's been keyed really badly (and the bumper needs doing) I would pay £600 for it so I could factor in a respray of the damage! We bought ours for £900 with a dent in it Which we can't get sorted out and regret having to pay that much for a car with such damage, some other people might be put off completely by the damage (even if it so small) So £600-£700 tops!
