Default Love it

I got a 75 tourer a few weeks ago, very high mileage 234,000 and a bit dirty but sounded fine.

Went away for a few days and put £40 of diesel in and that returned 448 miles now if my calculation is right thats 51mpg, WOW.

Found a funny noise that appears at about 50 and is a loud hum and when at rolling pace sounds like a flat tyre , thump, thump thump weird but other than that really happy.

Also worth checking the inner wheel rims for any damage - it can put a wheel well out of balance.

Sigh....I don't know if it's just me, but mpg can't be calculated based on £££ of fuel. You need to know miles travelled, and qty fuel used to achieve that mileage. (Cost of fuel is irrelevant).
Also don't know if the tank was completely empty or, say, 1/4 full before you put the £40 in, and was it completely empty or 1/4 full when you completed the 448 miles.😕
Check out "brim to brim".
Maybe I've had too much sun today...
Either way, 448 miles isn't unreasonable for "a tankfull" for a manual, and not shabby if it's an auto.😄, assuming it's for a diesel.
As for the noise.. If it only appears at 50, is it also accompanied by vibration.? If so, may just need wheels balanced.
Glad your liking your new car, and sorry for sounding like a **** on the mpg thing.😄
