Default Insurance gray area and our government is at fault

Yep, Drug driving, there are two codes for drug driving one is DG10 and the other DR 80. These are both for the same offence but on the DR10 this stays on your licence for 4 years yet on DR 80 its 11 years. When you contact insurance companies for a quote they get in a big tiz woz over what code to use

if it is on your licence then surely the insurance company have to use the code that is stated on the driving licence, having said that DR10 is for alcohol and DR 80 is for drugs so not exactly the same offence.

DG10 and DR80 both stay on your licence for 11 years. These are not for the same offence as DG10 is for driving or attempting to while under the influence and DR80 is driving or attempting to while unfit. The difference being one you look normal and act normal but are found over the limit, the other you are out of your head and very dangerous, they both carry the same penalties but a DG10 usually results in a lower fine and less points.

As for insurance companies they have not seen DG10 very often so presume it is a typo.

I got my info from the Keith Michaels web site, these people specialise in this type of insurance. My son got pulled over after leaving a car meet, the cops smelt cannabis in his car and the rest is history. It was his mate that had been smoking this stuff in my sons car. I do not condone drink or drug driving at all, the best thing to come out of this is to show his mates that if you do get done and banned from driving once you get your licence back the punishment will continue as your car insurance quotes go through the roof.

It's a hard lesson learnt, especially as your son did not smoke the stuff. Unfortunately the so called mate who did will not suffer as your son has to, unless............

The drug driving offence puzzles me, in the drink driving everyone has a rough idea what they can drink and still be under the limit (I know this varies from one to another)
With drugs though, how many (prescription drugs) is too many? for instance I take Tramadol for severe pain and often dare not go out or I go out in pain
because I may be over the limit
By the by, how do they test for drugs ?
Ken.

Excuse me for being a bit thick here, but did your son get done for being over the limit just by inhaling someone else's smoke, or was the offence someone else smoking in his car while he was driving?
